My son was getting married and the only shop I wanted to go to was Super Saravana Stores. Why? Because here I get all the items I’d find in a luxury brand store but at a much more reasonable price and with a wider selection. What’s more? My entire family can shop under one roof without running around from place to place.
The sheer enormity of Super Saravana Stores hit me only when I walked into their store. From the outside, it has always looked imposing, but once I walked in it was the whole new world of shopping. Of course, the ladies went crazy. My wife was fascinated by the cotton sari collection when we are shopping for weddings! Then she told me we can gift our family members sarees from here because it is cheaper than other stores. Then obviously we have to buy veshti/dhotis and angavastram also for the men. We took very little time in selection because the salesperson was very efficient and quick to point out where we can find what we want. This was very helpful.
Since my son was the main reason to shop, we started with the menswear. He did not leave the salespersons! After buying the silk dhoti &angavastram for the main ceremony, he tried on so many different sherwanis for his reception. So many colours to choose from. But he wanted something in beige/gold to match with his bride. You can pick readymade sets, or mix & match the kurtas or bandgalas with the pajamas of your choice. Otherwise, there is always an abundant choice of materials. You can easily put together a set of your own and get it stitched. My son chose from the readymade section. It was a good choice – banarasi silk kurta with chanderi silk pajamas. It came with its own dupatta also. He also bought a few branded shirts & trousers for other events. Since we were in the menswear section, I bought three branded shirts, two silk veshtis for myself too… service is quick, so this didn’t take much time.
It was very economical to shop in Super Saravana Stores because it is cheaper than in other places. It took half a day just to complete my son’s shopping. But the sales staff are polite and helpful so it was a comfortable and friendly shopping experience.
We had lunch in the canteen which serves good, clean food. The elaneer / tender coconut was most welcome! We sat down to refresh ourselves and then went back to the shop inside.
My daughter wanted to buy material and stitch whatever she wanted. So, we went to the silk section. The silk materials included everything you’d want from tasar, chanderi and jacquard to banaras, kanjivaram. She was so happy! She wanted bright colours with embroidery. She said this is the latest fashion that all the designers are following. She easily got what she wanted. She also bought one ready-made designer partywear gown in pastel green. She looked very beautiful in it. It was an unplanned purchase but completely worth it!
After the children were done with their clothing, my wife picked out her silk sarees. With so many colours and choice of materials, she went crazy. But since it was a wedding, she went for a traditional kanjivaram silk sari for the morning function. The zari work was wonderful! We didn’t want tested zari so we bought only pure zari sarees. The saleslady was very patient! After seeing close to fifty saris, my wife bought two more slightly simple zari work saris for other functions. The sales people attracted her attention to the designer sarees and naturally, my wife was tempted. She always comments while watching her favourite serials about how she also wants to buy that type of sari for partywear. At Super Saravana Stores, they had a varying price range based on material and work done on the saris. She ended up convincing me that she needed three designer sarees – mother and daughter will share! I finally agreed.
That was my delightful shopping experience at Super Saravana Stores! We bought more than we planned, but that is natural when there are such a wide choice and helpful staff.
