Wedding season is coming up and I wanted my little 8-year old daughter to be perfectly dolled up for two weddings that were coming up! One was a north Indian Shaadi and the other a typical south Indian family wedding. As a mother I can tell you, I always feel it is easier to shop for adults than for children!
My husband and I went to some of the popular children’s shopping stores but didn’t find the good quality to match the big price tag. Sometimes the material wasn’t even kid-friendly! Exasperated, I called my sister to ask her what she used to do when her kids were younger. She said she blindly went to Super Saravana Stores and only shopped there for the kids. She said in this shop you get everything from costumes for school projects, fancy dress, sportswear and regular wear to clothes for parties, weddings and functions. The children outgrow their clothes quickly so the fact that all this is available at amazing prices is just an added bonus. I asked her if it isn’t a daunting experience to get in and out of a shop so large. She said, “Once you go inside and see the collection, you won’t ask me such stupid questions! Do you know they also have Jewellery for kids? It’s so cute! When you’re there also go see the salwar section for workwear. You’ll stop all shopping everywhere else. Trust me!”
With that, we went to Super Saravana Stores. My sister did not give me a full picture. This shop was so much more amazing than she told me! I could not believe my eyes! First of all, their floor space is so huge that you don’t even notice if it is crowded or not! So many sales staff everywhere… stacking & restacking so that each customer gets a fresh shelf to look at. The professionalism itself struck me as incredible. I got distracted at first with the ladies’ wear because I haven’t seen so many shelves and shelves of options anywhere else! My husband reminded me (twice!) that we were there to shop for our little darling and so I tore myself away to find the kids section.
My heart sang with joy when I saw the adorable ready-mades they have for kids. It’s really well thought out and someone has gone to a great extent to curate such an array of clothing just for kids. I started imagining my daughter in this and that and that and to me, she looked adorable in everything I saw… I really wanted to buy the shop! Ok, before I get carried away let me tell you exactly what I found.
First, for weddings, I got her two sets of cute little silk salwar kameez with dupatta. I went crazy choosing the colours for her pavadai set. The combinations were excellent! There was one with a yellow pavadai with a pink border. The blouse was pink. She looked so pretty, I was so happy I found it. I bought that and another one as well in blue & purple combination. She was so excited. I also got her two embroidered cotton frocks because she looked delightful in them. It was so easy to shop!
Anyway once we finished the clothing, my husband suggested, “Shall we buy her some cute earrings to match?” Clearly, my husband couldn’t resist spoiling our little girl either! We bought her matching bangles for all her clothes, then we picked up an anklet set and the icing on the cake – the cutest dolak / jhumki in gold! I couldn’t find one this pretty anywhere else. It was always too big or too small for her. So we’d only bought her studs so far. I was so excited and happy that I could buy my little girl her first jhumki and she also loved it! She wanted to wear it immediately but we had to convince her to wear it later. Having bought all this, we got her a pair of bling slippers as well! After all, a girl needs her fancy footwear!
Thoroughly satisfied with the shopping we’d done for our little one, we decided we’ll come back again for our own clothing. Thank you, Super Saravana Stores, for making our lives so easy and for helping me find the perfect look for my daughter! I will always come back for more!
